Richmond Park by Robin and June

Location: N 51 26.584 W 000 16.682 Difficulty: 2 Terrain: 1

New ! You will find the lat/lon of the geocache box hidden in a vertical crack. Please put it back for others. The box itself is only a few minutes walk, and you will need to look under a root of tree 2138. Please make sure it is well hidden and you are not seen.

The "Richmond Park" Geocache is hidden a pleasant walk into this "typically English" large London Park, full of wild deer and other wildlife. It is the usual Lovelock large tupperware box with instant camera - to take a picture of yourself, books and toys for children, calculator, and lots of other low value "goodies".

The best approach is probably to enter the park through Richmond Gate, in the north west corner. Then turn right to travel south until you reach the Pembroke Lodge Gardens free car park at N 51 26.594' W 0 17.579' where you will also find toilets and refreshments. A visit to Pembroke Lodge Gardens can also be made. You then make your way towards Pen Ponds.

This is a great opportunity to see wildlife including the deer, which seem to tolerate us humans quite well :-) Read the warning notices about not approaching too close when the males are "in rut" - those antlers look as if they might do some damage ! This stag is guarding the cache ;-)

You will find more Lovelock caches on www.gpss.co.uk/geocache If you wish to contact Robin and want a reply, please email him direct on gpss@compuserve.com If you do this through a geocaching web site, please make sure you include your email address. Robin regrets that he may not reply to those who seek to hide who they are. Please include at least your name and email address.

Pictures from the Cache Camera

Some of the pictures below appeared in the BBC feature on Geocaching which was filmed in Richmond Park in December, then broadcast Worldwide in January 2002.

Log Book Many Thanks to everyone who visited the Richmond Park cache and logged their visits in the book and/or on the web site. Thanks for these nice pictures too :-) I'm grateful to Pat Pritchard and her colleages at The Royal Parks office, based in Richmond Park, for posting the full camera to me. Sorry they are a bit blurred, and in some cases only part of the picture - I will scan them properly soon. The originals are much better - particularly that last one of the lad inside the tree. Who is the pretty girl in top right ? :-) Recognise yourselves ? If so, please contact me, Robin, on gpss@compuserve.com or tel 01344 620775, and I'll put up the names, etc, after cross-referring to the log entries. These are not the order they appeared on the film, which started with several pictures of a black and white dog - someone shy ? :-) There is now a new camera in the cache.
